Jahrhundert” möchte das Institut für Ethnologie und Afrikanistik in München die Ethnologie und deren Relevanz der Öffentlichkeit vorstellen. Es gibt u.a. Vorträge zur Konfliktforschung, Organisationsethnologie und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit sowie eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Vertretern aus Politik, Kultur und Wissenschaft:

Counterbalancing preconceived ideas is the main focus of the Beeld voor Beeld Festival. Rituals surrounding death in different societies, the influence of globalization on African ‘traditional’ societies, as well as the life of illegal immigrants in The Netherlands and in Spain, and Moroccan women participating in women’s running groups in their free time: these are all themes which hopefully will give the audience a better understanding of human societies.

The festival promotes documentary cinema with a special emphasis on new films, videos or interactive media (published after 1.1.2005) dealing with socio-cultural processes in a wide sense of the term. The festival is open to all filmmakers, but especially those from anthropology, sociology, folklore and neighbouring disciplines. It provides a great opportunity for international co-operation in Visual Anthropology and documentary filmmaking.

Das 9th Göttingen International Ethnographic Film Festival 2008 findet auch dieses Jahr statt.
Vom 30. April bis zum 4. Mai werden in der Paulinerkirche (Teil der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek) am Papendiek 14 in Göttingen, 60 Medien aus über 30 Ländern präsentiert und premiert. Dokumentarfilmer, Studenten und interessierte Doku-Fans haben hier die Möglichkeit die neuesten und besten Filme zu sehen. Gezeigt werden Filme die im weitesten Sinne sozio-kulturelle Prozesse deuten, beschreiben, kritisieren usw. Der Fachbereich bezieht sich auf die Ethnologie, die Soziologie und ihre Nachbardisziplinen.

Das Thema dieses Festivals setzt sich aus aktuellen kulturellen Ereignissen rund um die gesamte Welt zusammen. Integration, Migration und Globalisierung sind dabei die tragenden Kräfte.

On 1st January 1988, Inform (Information Network Focus on Religious Movements, http://www.inform.ac opened its doors to the public for the purpose of providing information that is as objective, reliable and up-to-date as possible about minority religions. Later that same year, CESNUR (the Center for Studies on New Religions, http://www.cesnur.org ) was established by a group of European and North American scholars with the similar aim of contributing to our knowledge and understanding of minority religions.

As part of their twentieth anniversary celebrations, these two organisations are jointly organising this conference in order to assess the changes that have taken place over the past two decades, survey the current situation, and consider the fate of religious and spiritual groups in an increasingly multi-cultural world.

Als gemeinsame Verantstaltung des Instituts für Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie (KSA), des Museums für Völkerkunde und der Forschungsstelle Sozialanthropologie der ÖAW sind die Tage der KSA eine Art “Leistungsschau”. Aktuelle Forschungen und Projekte von Studierenden und Lehrenden werden vorgestellt und einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht.

Der Festvortrag unter dem Titel “Unerledigte Vergangenheit – Verhinderte Zukunft? Über die Chancen einer Erforschung praktischen Alltagswissens für die moderne Ethnologie” wird diesmal gehalten von Mareile Flitsch.
