Illustrates the history of ethnic groups in Russia with exhibition of trousers

St Petersburg’s Museum of Ethnography has decided to illustrate the history of ethnic groups living in Russia with an exhibition of trousers worn as part of their traditional costumes.

On display there are 70 pairs of trousers representing Turkic, Finno-Ugric and Baltic groups who inhabit the area from the Baltic Sea to the southern Urals.

The style of trousers reflects the environment people lived in and their daily routine, so they tell you more about the given culture than, say, a jacket or hat that often serve decorative rather than practical purposes, says the curator, Yelena Kolchina >> continue

Personliga nätverk och förmåga att knyta kontakter är viktigt för att lyckas i karriären. Men det finns fler vinster än så menar socialantropologen Peter Parker från Lunds universitet i en ny avhandling. Företag där medarbetarna är duktiga på att skapa nätverk är också mer framgångsrika än sina konkurrenter.

Han har undersökt ett antal små och medelstora skånska företag inom tillverkningsindustrin, ofta underleverantörer, med mellan 20 och 70 anställda. Nu publiceras resultaten i avhandlingen ”How Personal Networks Shape Buisiness”.

Søkelys på menn i prostitusjon

Når temaet er prostitusjon, forsvinner ofte mennene ut av bildet. Dette skjer til tross for at de både er kunder, halliker, bakmenn og prostituerte. I april 2005 arrangeres konferansen Men in prostitution: perspectives, identities and problems.

– Halliker og bakmenn finnes det nesten ingen forskning om. På konferansen skal det legges fram ny forskning om menn i prostitusjon, forteller May-Len Skilbrei, leder Nettverk for prostitusjonsforskning i Norden.

Nettverk for prostitusjonsforskning i Norden består av ni forskere fra Norge, Danmark og Finland. Faglig representerer de sosialantropologi, sosiologi, kriminologi og pedagogikk. Nettverket er i gang med å skrive bok om prostitusjon >> les mer
