Columbus Day: Celebrating a holocaust

Stannard, board member of the new American Indian Genocide Museum being established in Houston, said the most massive act of genocide in the world followed the arrival of Columbus in the Americas.

When Columbus first sighted land on Oct. 12, 1492, the American Indian Holocaust began. The Spanish were driven by their lust for gold and silver and the English fueled by their desire for property. Urfolksledere i verden er skuffet over at Wangari Maathai fikk Nobels fredspris. Dette fordi hun ikke anerkjenner urfolk.

– Jeg har vanskeligheter med å forstå begrepet og konseptet urfolk. Dette fordi vi alle er urfolk, sier fredprisvinneren til NRK Sámi Radio. Wangari Maathai mener det ikke er rett å dele opp befolkningen.

– Min personlige synspunkt er at vi alle, svarte mennesker, i dette landet, i dette kontinentet – er urfolk. Men vi har ulike levesett, fortsetter Wangari Maathai. Maathai er visemiljøvernminister i Kenya og avviser at masaier er urfolk i hennes land. >> les mer
