Kun to av ti vitenskapelige artikler og avhandlinger utgis på norsk. Den utstrakte bruken av engelsk truer akademias samfunnsbærende rolle, mener forskere.

– Tiden er over da universitetene oppfattet seg som kulturinstitusjoner med ansvar for norsk språk. Nå er det excellence som er målet, og man skal først og fremst markere seg internasjonalt som en fremragende forsknings– og utdanningsinstitusjon for å tiltrekke seg forskere og studenter, og dermed sikre sin finansielle og faglige posisjon.

Slik konkluderer Ola Haugen, tidligere leder i Norsk språkråd, en konferanse om språkbruk i akademia. Under headingen ”Engelsk, elitens nye latin?” har 25 forskere fra ulike fagdisipliner levert like mange syn på bruken av engelsk i norsk forskning og høyere utdanning. >> les mer
